Lanyi
The lanyi would formerly have been recited at the hkungran poi (wedding) of a high status bride. Specifically, it would have been recited when she had entered into the household of her dauma or bride-taking family after having been handed over from the protection of the mayu's household spirits to those of her husband's lineage. It was considered a further honour for the bride and mark of respect to her from the dauma, and the recitation would take the form of a truncated 'Creation Story', such as one might hear at a manau, but this time recited through the narrative of the creation of fauna and flora and the accoutrements needed by a good household.
